Peter Franus takes a minimalist approach to winemaking. His “old world” style distinguishes his wines from the majority of Californian wineries.
His 2018 Merlot uses grapes from the magnificent Stewart vineyard in Carneros and offers up an array of bright and inviting aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, dried herb, and a hint of fresh basil. The initial mouthfeel is lush, but is soon reined in by the acid and tannin structure, a hallmark of this wine and vineyard.
