Weingut Stefan Meyer is one of 13 producers in Rhodt, a small village 40 kilometers north of the French border. Stefan's family has roots in Hessen, and he has been making wine at the family cellar since 2009. The cellar, established in 1954, underwent a transition from aromatic to 'Pinot' varieties initiated by Stefan's father.

Stefan, with 17 hectares under organic cultivation since 2021, is expanding to an additional 13 hectares from 2023, it is Stefan’s objective to convert some of this land to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, whilst retaining parcels of older vine Riesling.

Carefully chosen grapes from specific plots are used in the vinification of this Pinot Noir, sourced from vineyards boasting over 9,000 vines per hectare. These wines showcase considerable depth and individuality. The grapes originate from Schwarzer Letten, cultivated in dense clay soil.

Maturation involves spontaneous fermentation on the skins, followed by a maceration period of 14-18 days and 12-14 months of aging in small oak barrels. The resulting wine exhibits a dark ruby red colour, with aromas of sour cherries and cassis complemented by subtle spices. The palate features soft, full tannins and well-structured acidity.
