2020 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Spéciale Les Hautes Brusquières
Two sisters now run Domaine de la Charbonnière and they have taken it up another level in terms of quality. They own 12 hectares around Châteauneuf-du-Pape and another 4.5 hectares in Vacqueyras.
One of the things we like about Domaine de la Charbonnière is that they are not afraid to lead with Grenache, we like the brighter more elegent red fruits that Grenache brings to the wine. Hautes Brusquières is a single vineyard cuvee made up of 60% Grenache and 39% Syrah and 1% Counoise , all from the Brusquière plateau.
A powerful and concentrated wine. On the nose there are intense aromas of black fruits and spices with notes of chocolate. The mouth is fresh yet distinguished by the concentrated aromas of black fruits, spices, leather.
Wonderful with red meat and hearty stews, it’s a powerful wine at 15% so it does need something bold! Venison would be another good pairing. It would also go equally well with strong mature aged cheese.
