2020 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Mourre des Perdrix
4th generation family run business run by two sisters Véronique and Caroline who have worked along side their father Michel Maret. They make rich juicy powerful reds but with a large proportion of Grenache in the blend, this lightness the colour and add more bright red fruits and elegance.
Single vineyard cuvee “Mourre des Perdrix”. It is situated on the much respected Courthezon. The soil here is composed of red clay, with round pebbles and sand marl.
The wine has a mix of dak and red fruits, with some plum/prune, nice spice and a subtle herby finish. Going to age well if you can keep your hands off it.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape food pairing - it’s a full bodied wine so can handle some bold flavours, so red meats stews and hotpots could handle African or middle eastern spiced dishes if not too hot. It will also go well with game like venison and pheasant.
