50 years ago Vinedos del Contino was established on the bank of the Ebro and became the first single estate winery in Rioja. Today it has 62 ha of vineyards and prides itself on combining tradition with innovation with a modern state of the art winery and ancient 16th century cave cellars.
For their Reserva Contino choose Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo grapes carefully handpicked from the best “microplots” from the Contino vineyards in Rioja Alavesa. This is a big and serious Rioja Reserva. It has juicy red fruits galore on the nose with hints of creaminess that follow through to the palate. The finish reflects its time in oak but with a raspberry and strawberry freshness.
The wine is aged for two years in oak barrels of which 20% American and 80% French, and completes its ageing in bottle for a year in the cellars of the winery.
