This was very exciting when we tried this. it reminded us of when we first tried Quinta Vale Meao probably back for the 2000 vintage. So that is saying a lot.
Quinta dos Murças Reserva is made from old vines and is the best expression of their estate wine. As you would expect lots of usual suspects when it comes to Douro grape varieties, so this is made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Sousão, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz.
It has dark berry fruits, with balsamic notes on the nose and well integrated spicy notes from oak barrel ageing. As this was bottled in 2017, it has given the tannins time to soften down but its still a pretty powerful wine, that said it is balanced and elegant. Got great aging potential but drinking beautifully now.
