Quinta do Vale Meăo in the Douro is owned by the Olazabal family, descendants of the founder, Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, Winemaker Xito Olazabal inherited a swathe of terroirs and grape varieties within the estate and is focussed on making wines that reflect the estates overall terroir and each vintages character.
The grapes are sourced exclusively from various parcels of Quinta do Vale Meão, at
the heart of the Douro Superior Region. Traditionally made using foot-treading in granit lagars before fortification. They vinify by parcel and grape variety, before ageing for a short period in large, old oak.
The sweetness is balanced by fresh acidity so there's nothing too sticky, and the gentle foot treading leads to soft, fine tannin, and a velvety texture. Ideally serve slightly chilled 14 to 16 degrees.
