Chateau des Jacques - Beaujolais' Finest Flight, Thursday 21st Nov
Thursday 21st November, Tables from 6.30pm
We love Beaujolais and what better way to celebrate the annual festivities of Beaujolais Nouveau day than with a tasting flight of arguably one the best producers of the region, Château des Jacques, who celebrate their centenary this year. Be prepared to throw away any preconceptions about Beaujolais and the humble Gamay grape, these guys use the same winemaking methods as Burgundy and make fabulous age worthy wines from some of the best Cru’s
As it is the third Thursday in November we will of course have a taste of the just released Nouveau, a Village level wine from 30 - 50 yr old vines which will be followed by an unoaked fresh and minerally Beaujolais Blanc. Next we’ll taste through the six superb examples of Chateau des Jacques’ age worthy and strikingly complex wines.
PLUS we'll give our new Raclette machine its first outing and serve the melted cheese the traditional way over steamed potatoes with charcuterie and cornichons on the side.
Château des Jacques was purchased by Loius Jadot in 1996 but the Château dates back to 1924, they are based in Romanèche-Thorins in Moulin de Vent, arguably the best address in Beaujolais! Château des Jacques have also been ahead of the curve by not using carbonic maceration. Indeed for the last 40 years they have fermented in open vats, and aged in oak barrels very much like Pinot Noir. Once Beaujolais is made in this way it grows closer is style to Pinot Noir and certainly the older it gets the more its likely to be mistaken for Pinot Noir. These are age worthy wines and you will find robust and structured wines that show rich earthy characteristics and dark fruit notes with spice.
Whether you're a Beaujolais enthusiast or just discovering its charm, this is the perfect event to dive deeper into its wines.
The wine tasting is untutored and informal allowing you to taste at your leisure. Full tasting notes on your table will give you background information and space to note any of your own observations. We will be milling around pouring wines and on hand to chat or answer any questions.
