Chateau Musar is rightly regarded as one of the world’s truly iconic wineries and no more so than with their Chateau Musar Red. This legendary wine is made with a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, and Cinsault from low-yield, mature bush vines. The varietal components are fermented separately and then aged in French oak barrels for one year before being blended together. The resulting wine is then placed back in tanks for a further year before being bottle aged for 4 years. The final product is finally released after 7 years from harvest, showcasing the unique characteristics of each vintage.
The 2018 Chateau Musar Red boasts a deep garnet colour and aromas of dried cherries and mature red fruits. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, offering notes of cranberries, raisins, and dates. With a pleasant acidity and fine tannins, it has an alluring smoky and dusty fruit profile with subtle undertones of liquorice. At 6 years of age upon release, this wine has already developed and matured.
