Shafer Vineyard, Napa
As iconic vineyards in Napa go they don’t get much bigger than Shafer! Robert Parker described it as ‘One of the world’s greatest wineries’. Founded in 1978, Shafer Vineyards is situated in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, just off of the Silverado Trail.
TD-9 was born from the Shafer Vineyards Merlot, which has been a cornerstone of their range for first 30 years. Doug Shafer and winemaker, Elias Fernandez were chatting about their Merlot and Elias said “You do realise that we could make a much better wine if we could make a red blend” After a short time experimenting Elias was proved right with TD-9, a finer, more complex wine but still staying true to the plush merlot of old. 56% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Malbec from Stags Leap District, Yountville and a vineyard in the Vaca Mountains, it is then aged to 20 months in 100% French oak.
