Eisele Vineyard, Calistoga
Eisele is one of the greatest single vineyards in California. It is historic as well as legendary. It was first planted some 120 years ago but its current incarnation is down to Milton and Barbara Eisele who bought the vineyard in 1969: such was the quality of its grapes a fledgling Paul Draper of Ridge fame used their Cabernet fruit for the 1971 Ridge Cabernet while waiting for the Monte Bello to hit its stride. The vineyard is now owned by François Pinault – the owner of Artemis (Chateau Latour etc). It is a special 38-acre vineyard where the vines roots dig deep for water, and the vines enjoy warm days and cool nights. The vineyard is certified organic and Biodynamic.
The Altagracia Cabernet Sauvignon is classed as their second wine and comes from parcels on the vineyard as well as some finely selected grapes from longstanding contracts.
