‘Midnight Bakkie Rides Again’ is from parcels of old vine Chenin Blanc in the Skurfberg that didn’t quite make the cut for Alheit Vineyard's 2022 iconic wines.
The winter of 2021 brought a lot of rain, leading to a higher-than-anticipated crop from the vineyards. While the flavour of the grapes was excellent, the unexpected excess in quantity meant they had too much. It also produced a more approachable fruit profile but do not under estimate the quality. It can be drunk now but will also reward those with patience.
So not quite as concentrated but still a superb wine from a distinguished winemaker!
