Nestled high in the Banghoek Valley with a stunning view of the 'Rondekop' hill, Oldenburg Vineyards stands as one of South Africa's most picturesque farms, crafting beautifully elegant wines that capture the essence of their terroir. The valley, situated in Stellenbosch, benefits from a unique microclimate characterized by cool temperatures, thanks to its elevation, ocean breezes, and encircling mountains. Oldenburg Vineyards offers three distinct ranges: the prestigious Rondekop line, epitomizing the property's terroir; the Oldenburg Vineyards series, showcasing exceptional single varietals; and the CL range, named for its cooler microclimate compared to that of Stellenbosch, offering an accessible priced wine of exceptional quality.
<CL' is part of Oldenburg's Lifestyle range and is a blend of Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc from exclusively cooler climate vineyards. Thirty-seven percent of the wine was aged in concrete eggs, while sixty-seven percent matured in older French oak barrels.
With a gentle lemon hue, the wine has aromas of lemon zest, elderflowers, and orange blossom, along with hints of honey and lemon curd. A refreshing, mineral essence complements the aromatic profile. The palate offers vibrant fruit flavours and lively acidity, complemented by notes of white lilies, jasmine, and grapefruit pithiness from the old vines. The finish flashes with touches of vanilla that enhances the elegant taste.
