This lovely red wine form Josef Ehmoser is an Austrian classic made from the Zweigelt grape variety, which is a cross between St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch grapes. The grapes come from Ehmoser's Hohenberg and Georgenberg vineyards in the Wagram region of Lower Austria.
Fermentation and maturation takes place in large barrels and lends the wine depth, structure and complexity. A rich violet colour, with characteristic aromas of ripe, red berries, sweet dried fruits, with juicy, concentrated flavours and spice. Ripe, gentle tannins and an expressive, elegant fruit make this a charming accompaniment to a meal.
The wine is best enjoyed young and fresh. It can be served chilled or at room temperature. It would be a good match for grilled meats, poultry, or fish. It would also be a good choice for a summer picnic or barbecue.
