Casa Ferreirinha's origins can be traced back to 1952, when the first Barca-Velha vintage was produced. A pioneer in the Douro region, Fernando Nicolau de Almeida sparked a quality revolution in still wines, with Casa Ferreirinha being the first producer to solely focus on this type of wine rather than Port.

The vinification process occurred at state-of-the-art wineries at Quinta do Seixo in Cima Corgo and Quinta da Leda in Douro Superior. The grapes were destemmed and gently crushed before being moved to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. During this stage, careful maceration was carried out at controlled temperatures to achieve the desired level of extraction. The wine was then aged in previously-used French oak barrels for approximately 12 months.
