Weingut Stefan Meyer is one of 13 producers in Rhodt, a small village 40 kilometers north of the French border. Stefan's family has roots in Hessen, and he has been making wine at the family cellar since 2009. The cellar, established in 1954, underwent a transition from aromatic to 'Pinot' varieties initiated by Stefan's father.

Stefan, with 17 hectares under organic cultivation since 2021, is expanding to an additional 13 hectares from 2023, it is Stefan’s objective to convert some of this land to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, whilst retaining parcels of older vine Riesling.

Fruhburgunder, or in France known as Pinot Noir Précoce, is an early-ripening form or mutation of Pinot Noir, historically cultivated extensively on both sides of the German Rhine. It shares the visual and aromatic characteristics of Pinot Noir. In this case, the wine undergoes an extended aging process in older barrels to mellow out the tannins.

Grapes are from vineyards in Rhodt and the neighbouring regions, nurtured in loess-clay soil.  Maceration takes14-18 days, followed by aging in small oak barrels for 12-14 months.

A juicy style of wine with aroma of cassis and vegetative spiciness (lovage), and a subtle wood structure on the palate.
