50 years ago Vinedos del Contino was established on the bank of the Ebro and became the first single estate winery in Rioja. Today it has 62 ha of vineyards and prides itself on combining tradition with innovation with a modern state of the art winery and ancient 16th century cave cellars.
Contino have taken a classic Rioja grape and made it into a single varietal wine which is lighter and more elegant than Tempranillo base Rioja. It's an aromatic and very fruity wine with delicate herbacious notes. The palate is deep with well integrated mineral tannins and somewhat saline, and with good balancing acidity,
The wine spends six months post fermentation in oak vats and then in second use oak barrels.
