Sogrape acquired Quinta dos Carvalhais in the Dão sub-region of Terras de Senhorim in 1988. Since then, this 105-hectare estate with 50 hectares of vineyards has undergone significant improvements to both its vineyards and winery. This dedication to quality has played a crucial role in the resurgence of Dão's wines in the 1990s. After years of state control and a co-operative monopoly, Quinta dos Carvalhais has successfully revived native grape varieties, including Touriga Nacional and Encruzado, which were on the brink of disappearing.
The Tinto Reserva, a blend of Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, and Tinta Roriz, is aged for 12 months in a combination of new and used French oak, resulting in a luxurious wine with bold black fruit aromas, smooth tannins, and a lingering finish.
